Tripped Across U.S. in Rental Car After 9/11, Eating at Every KFC & Burger King
Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor & Marlon Brando Road Tripped Across U.S. in Rental Car After 9/11, Eating at Every KFC & Burger King
Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando decided to take a road trip in a rental car across the United States after airplanes were grounded on September 11, 2001.
Brando irritated Jackson and Taylor by insisting on stopping at almost every Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King restaurant along the way to fuel his huge appetite and obese frame.
Vanity Fair reporter Sam Kashner wrote: “Brando allegedly annoyed his traveling companions by insisting on stopping at nearly every KFC and Burger King they passed along the highway.
“One can only imagine the shock their appearance caused at gas stations and rest stops across America.”
The trip reportedly began after Jackson invited the other two to New York for his concerts on September 7 and September 10 at Madison Square Garden.
However, the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, postponed all flights in the U.S., so the three friends chose to drive for their return to California.
According to a former employee of Michael Jackson, the three friends traveled a total of 535 miles.
The employee said Jackson led the actors to a temporary safe haven in New Jersey following the confusion of the terrorist attacks, before they began driving.
“They actually got as far as Ohio – all three of them, in a car they drove themselves,” he said.
Actor Corey Feldman told the journalist that he and Jackson had an argument the previous night at the singer’s concert in Taylor’s dressing room backstage at Madison Square Garden.
“Elizabeth hadn’t arrived yet, and then 9/11 happened. But I remember that [the next day] Michael was trying to get Elizabeth out! He was at first looking for a private jet,” Feldman said. “He wanted permission to fly out—but everything was surreal. I didn’t go with him.”
One of Taylor’s assistants and friends, who requested to remain anonymous, insists that Taylor did not flee New York with Jackson and Brando.
“Elizabeth stayed behind,” he said, “where she went to a church to pray, and she went to an armory where people were who couldn’t get home or who’d stayed behind to look for the missing. She also went down to Ground Zero, where she met with first responders. Eventually, the airports opened and she flew home.”
The journalist was skeptical of the man’s Mother Teresa story, “She may well have done some of those things, though no reports surfaced in the media of sightings of Elizabeth Taylor ministering to the frightened and wounded or showing up at Ground Zero.”
However, since all of the entertainers are dead, none is able to substantiate or dispute the strange, funny story.
Brando died aged 80 in July 2004, Jackson in June 2009, aged 50, and Taylor in March this year, aged 79.
All three celebrities not only bonded over their career experiences, but they also all enjoyed volunteering as activists for AIDS, education and peace.
